Activity #1:

The Title of your story:  ___________________________________________________________

The Author(s) of your story:  _______________________________________________________

Create a FICTIONAL interview with the author of your story.

Pretend you are a journalist for a magazine, newspaper, or tv show and you've been assigned to write up an interview with this author.  Now, obviously you are going to use a bit of 'literary license' in creating the responses from the author's point of view.

Make sure you write in COMPLETE SENTENCES with proper grammar, usage, structure, and mechanics.

FIRST, write down 10 excellent questions to pose to your author.  Do not simply ask 'yes or no' questions, nor questions which can be answered with just short words or phrases.  Ask serious questions, those which require thoughtful responses.  Ask for opinions.  Ask about the author's written works, the characters, the situations, and the plots.  Think of burning questions you have about the story you've read.

SECOND, think carefully about what and how the author might answer these questions.  Then write a response from the Author's point of view.

Activity #1 (extended):

Do a little research first.  Find the author's birthplace & birthdate, where he/she went to school, family and job history, and other important biographical information.

Now take your interview questions and biographical data and create a FEATURE STORY article from them.  Again, from a journalistic point of view, design an article for a newspaper or magazine where you weave your answers together to focus on the life and career of your author.   Highlight the important aspects of the author's life and how your author came to write your selected story.

Activity 2:

The Title of your story:  ___________________________________________________________

The Author(s) of your story:  _______________________________________________________

Main Character of your story:  ______________________________________________________

Other Characters in your story:  _____________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________________

Pretend that you have invited several of the characters from your story to dinner at your house.  Everyone will arrive and be seated around one large table.  Before, during, and after dinner, the guests will be carrying on a conversation (or several conversations) about their lives, hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations.  There may be some harmony in the group, and there may be conflict.  Since it is at your house, you may join in the conversations too, either posing or answering questions.

Write up, in a narrative form, the events of the evening.  Be sure to indicate who the characters are (you may have to introduce them to the group) and give each a description.  Also make sure you appropriately use quotation marks and proper dialogue structure to indicate who is talking, and to whom they are speaking. Be clear in your writing so the reader can picture the evening's events in our minds.
